NOAH IN 928:
BEING BOY
December 15, 2025 | Cañete, Peru
To be boy is to be small and in love with what is big.
It is not knowing the depth of the next step and taking it anyway. It is looking up for answers, not in. It is donning a sneer or a grin accompanied by a determined set of eyebrows. It is charging ahead, like Washington crossing the Delaware, proud and unashamed
Those were the days: Curiosity was the provoker of knowledge seeking, not confusion. Dirt was gold. Rest was followed by running down spirals that never seem to end.
In growing old, we’ve convinced ourselves that the world is grand. Healthcare, nuclear arms, macroeconomics feel light years from days when shadows were our biggest fear.
The days were long. The dark was fun. The only thing more active than our minds was the strands or curls of hair mom could never quite control. She couldn’t control us either.
In a world always talking about masculinity, manhood, and manly deeds, I wish I could be boy again.
