2024 MARKSMEN YEARBOOK
St. Mark's School of Texas | Editor-in-Chief
One of the biggest creative projects I led was Volume 65 of the Marksmen Yearbook. As the first Black Editor-in-Chief in school history, I ushered our publication into a new era of content structure and visual inspiration. The book's theme—THESE WALLS—is inspired by the Kendrick Lamar song of the same name and highlights the campus' architecture.

Above is book's cover that features a silhouette of one of the columns that line the school's great hall. The yellow text elements are embossed in print cover.
EXPANDED FEATURE SECTION
The highlight of the book from a design—and coverage—standpoint is a sixteen profile feature section that connects people to the iconic places on campus. Each page includes its own thematic copy, a story profiling the page's subject, the connection to campus architecture, a script ticker on the bottom with the current page in yellow, and accompanying portrait photography.
Below are the best profile spreads from the book.

This spread is the first in the profile section and highlights the connection between former headmaster Arnie Holtberg and Centennial Hall.

The dedication of the yearbook, noted by the distinct purple background, highlights school security guard Doug Brady. The dedication is voted on by members of the senior class and revealed at the annual Marksmen Ball.

Carl Sewell III discusses the importance of the Marksmen Athletic Complex.

The spirit of athletics is embodied by equipment manager Ron Turner.

Fraser and Nolan Marcus—a father-son duo who share a unique connection to the school—tell their story of pedigree.

Graduate Hall, a room that houses the name of every school graduate, is embodied by St. Mark's legacy Jay Zopolsky.

The school archives is curated and represented by historian Jan Forrester.

In her final year, lower school librarian Barbara Kinkead represents curiosity.
SENIOR PORTRAIT PAGES
It is a tradition at St. Mark's for every senior to have one page to themselves. In addition to the traditional parting words, baby pictures, top accomplishments and senior quote, I chose to reimagine the page and connect it to theme by also highlighting each student's favorite spot on campus in gold text and their page's background.

DIVISION PAGE DESIGN
Using individual threshold sketches of iconic campus structures, we divided the book into its three sections. The three main section division pages feature thematic copy that highlights its subsections to accompany its leading visual. The parting page features the yearbook's epigraph.

The title page features the St. Mark's Chapel.

The Winn Science Center is the focus of the student life divider.

The people section titled Commons is depicted by the beamwork in the Chapel.

The Path to Manhood statue represents the section that belongs to the seniors.

The book's epigraph sits above the iconic Perot Quadrangle sign.
CHRONOLOGICAL COVERAGE
With the help of the section editors, we told a story of the school year using engaging layouts, striking photography, color and font choices that bend the rules of yearbook convention. Here are some of the best traditional spreads.
